MJD is growing and to keep up our momentum we are looking for a B2B agency sales & marketing manager to work out of our San Diego office. Sales and marketing work hand-in-hand at MJD. The nature of the work will find you huddled up, collaborating closely with the agency’s partners and senior leadership, focusing on agency growth.

The primary responsibility of this role is implementing MJD’s inbound, content-based marketing program; including constructing marketing campaigns, identifying and targeting outbound sales prospects, identifying speaking opportunities and booking them for senior management, managing the agency CRM, and managing the production of content and company events.

Success in this role is measured by:

  • Campaigns executed and new business leads generated
  • Ability to help create compelling content through research and targeted industry understanding
  • Accuracy in hitting content release deadlines
  • CRM contact growth from qualified prospecting and outbound sales efforts
  • Identifying and booking speaking engagements for senior leadership
  • The ability to listen to your internal muse, identifying and putting into action ingenious marketing ideas without being told what to do by “the man”.

You might be right for this position if you:

  • Are interested/experienced in agency new business – how it operates, how to pitch, how prospects turn into clients
  • Understand the high-level concepts of inbound B2B marketing and outbound sales efforts
  • Can coordinate small production teams and like working with senior leadership
  • Can wax poetic about creative uses of technology and be able to write about it
  • Can undertake moderately-sized research assignments independently
  • Are crazy interested in future technologies like IoT, VR, and faceless UI
  • Read blogs like Business Insider, Techcrunch, Digiday, etc.
  • Love working on a team, kicking ideas around together, but also excel in coming up with ideas and implementing them on your own
  • Trust your intuition and business acumen

This role is not for people:

  • That are social media community managers only
  • Scared to ask questions or attend industry events on behalf of MJD
  • That needs supervision – because, well, someone looking over your shoulder all the time stinks
  • Looking to do client marketing campaigns, this is much more fun role for our own agency marketing


The ideal candidate has the following skills:

  • Excellent business writer and editor
  • Understanding and passion for new technologies
  • Confidently present to executives and potential clients
  • Firm understanding of how to use:
    • Keynote (Expert level deck building skills)
    • CRM systems (Hubspot experience a plus)
    • CMS systems (WordPress a plus)
    • LinkedIn sales, marketing, publishing, and analytics features
    • Google analytics experience a plus
  • Project management
    • Comprehensive understanding of the project(s) at hand and ability to drive that vision through completion
    • Ability to work with our production team to get resources for internal projects
    • Coordination of deadlines internally and externally


  • 3+ years in a marketing manager and/or agency BD/Strategy role
  • Copywriting experience is a requirement (examples will be requested)
